New this Season on Unashamed Recovery is the Recovery Minute, a weekly encouragement to help keep you sober.

This week our Recovery Minute is about the Impossibility of Serenity.

Serenity goes hand and hand with the recovery process. At first it seems unobtainable...almost impossible. We start thinking we will never be able to live in a serene state of mind inside the chaos that is our brokenness and our hurt. But, early on in our recovery journey we learn that we must give up control and surrender to our higher power. That is where the serenity prayer comes in to teach us to be okay in the moments where we can or cannot change the outcome. It teaches us to live in the moment and for us in recovery, it's crucial for us to maintain the one day at a time lifestyle. In what areas of your life can you apply serenity today?

The Serenity Prayer:

God, grant me the serenity

to accept the things I cannot change,

the courage to change the things I can,

and the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time,

enjoying one moment at a time;

accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;

taking, as Jesus did,

this sinful world as it is,

not as I would have it;

trusting that You will make all things right

if I surrender to Your will;

so that I may be reasonably happy in this life

and supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.
