It was the election everyone thought was decided — until the West kept counting. On the morning of November 8, 1916, newspapers across America declared a new president… only to discover they were wrong. When the final votes came in from California, a margin of just 3,773 ballots — less than half a percent — changed not only the outcome of the race, but the course of world history.

This is the story of how one of the closest elections in U.S. history kept America out of war… for a little while.
