Megan McDonald was just 20 years old when she was found brutally beaten to death on a quiet road in Wallkill, New York. The daughter of a retired NYPD detective, Megan’s murder shocked her community and left investigators searching for answers. Her car was found abandoned. There was no robbery, no sexual assault, and no arrests for more than two decades.

Behind the scenes, detectives focused on one man: her ex-boyfriend, Edward Holley. He owed Megan thousands of dollars and was reportedly angry after she ended their relationship. Prosecutors claim jealousy and money were his motive, linking him to the crime through phone records, witness statements, and DNA.

But the case is far from over. Holley’s defense points to another ex, Pauly Simpson, who spoke to Megan the night she was killed. Add in a dead suspect, political pressure, and a mistrial after twenty-two years, and the truth becomes even harder to see.

Will Megan’s family ever find peace, or will her case remain one of New York’s most frustrating unsolved murders?

Follow True Crime Recaps for the stories that prove time does not always bring justice.
