For centuries, Christians—including Jesus Himself—understood Genesis 1 as a literal, historical account of creation and regarded Adam and Eve as real people. Only in more recent times, under the influence of secular philosophy and evolutionary thinking, have some begun to question this view. The natural, straightforward reading of Genesis remains the most consistent with both biblical teaching and church history.
