In this episode, I interview Sung-Hyui Park, Partner at the Law Firm Bates Wells. She uses her power and influence in law, to redress power imbalances: she advises on investment and contractual terms that aim to be pragmatic, equitable and mindful of the wider goals and mandates. aiming for the “best of all worlds”.
In our conversation, we explore the practical ways in which contracts can incentivise and empower all parties to succeed. We delve into some uncomfortable truths around business as usual, as well as exploring the pressure points that can catalyse significant systemic shifts for the organisations involved, as well as the wider stakeholder groups.
As is a theme for us at the moment, we explore ways in which meaningful collaboration is key to unlocking long term value and business opportunities that bring a multiplier effect.
I never thought I’d utter these words, but this conversation with Sung-Hyui (“hair”) Park made me seriously consider shifting my career to retraining as a lawyer, when I understood the significant impact law can have as a tool in service of society.
You can read more about the Equalising Deal Terms project here.
