It all started when Jacob was driving through Austria, turned on the radio, and suddenly heard Gabriel doing a feature about Kaiserschmarren. From that moment, it was clear: his culinary journalism had to make its way into The Wurst Guide podcast.

So buckle up, pour yourself a schnapps – it’s about to get sweet. In this episode, we dive deep into Austrian culinary history and try to figure out why Kaiserschmarren became a national dish, where it really comes from, the myths around it, and which of the many legends is most likely true. Gabriel brought along five versions for us to debate.

For the grand finale, we revisit something iconic: a viral video once called the “Austrian Circle of Life” – basically a food calendar mapping out the year, from wild garlic in spring to roast goose in autumn. Gabriel updated this beloved calendar and now presents the 2025 edition.
