Today’s guest is no stranger to winning—in fact, she makes winning look routine.

Elysian Fields senior Cara Sims has officially signed her national letter of intent to continue both her academic journey and her remarkable distance-running career at The University of Texas at Austin. The Longhorns are home to one of the premier track and field programs in the nation, and Cara—a four-time Class 2A state champion with even more titles in her sights this spring—is ready to keep on running straight toward the bright lights of Austin and the challenges and opportunities that await her there.

But there’s far more to Cara than medals and mile times. She’s a well-rounded young lady who deeply values her family, her teammates, and her home community of Elysian Fields. Every stride she takes and every championship she claims reflects the support, love, and influence of the people and places that shaped her.

Today, we sit down with Cara to talk about her latest state title—her second straight cross-country championship—and the heart, thought, and excitement behind her commitment to run for the Longhorns.
