When life falls apart and heaven seems silent, what should you do with the pain—and the people—who offer more confusion than comfort? In this episode of The Wisdom Journey, Stephen Davey explores Job 11–14, where Job’s so-called friends continue their harsh accusations and unhelpful advice. Zophar, the most blunt of the three, suggests that Job’s suffering is less than he deserves. But Job, covered in sores and sitting on ashes, knows otherwise.

Stephen unpacks Job’s brilliant yet heart-wrenching response as he pleads for clarity and defends his integrity. Job asks profound questions: “How can a man be right with God?” and “Why does God remain silent?” These chapters expose the common error of assuming suffering always comes from sin—and how dangerous that theology can be.

But in the midst of Job’s pain, we also glimpse his faith. His powerful declaration—“Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him”—offers a model for trusting God without understanding Him.

If you’ve ever wrestled with deep sorrow, harsh criticism, or the hush of heaven, this episode will remind you that God’s silence is never abandonment—and your faith in Him is never wasted.
