With the Thanksgiving holiday here in the US, we thought it would be an excellent time to talk turkey about one of the great New Year's Day traditions—The Tournament of Roses in Pasadena, California. The celebration includes the famous college football game The Rose Bowl and the accompanying Rose Parade. Brother Mel Astrahan, PGM of California, joins us to give an exhaustive look at the history of the float, the process to build it, and a look behind the scenes of how it all happens. The oldest documented Odd Fellows float was from 1908, sponsored by Crown City Lodge of Pasadena. Now, the float is a major undertaking coordinated by the Rose Float Committee and staffed by dozens of amazing volunteers. Follow along as Brother Mel gives us a tour of everything Rose Float. The Shoutout goes to a newly-resurrected lodge, Prosperity #301 of Wenatchee, Washington. In the Odd Podge Ainslie shares a ghost story sent to him by a friend of the show in Australia, Mike tells about the Veterans Day Parade and bowling night in Charleston, Toby talks about his experience helping revive Prosperity #301, and Mel shares his favorite story about Brother P. T. Barnum.
