Financial Planner Luke Smith joined 2CC Talking Canberra 1206AM in Money Matters, which aired live on Friday 9 May 2025. The topic for this week is: How much can you get into super this year, now that the limits have changed? With the end of financial year fast approaching, now is the time to start planning your super and tax outcomes. Luke and Leon however start the show by talking about the election results and the governments plan to tax unrealised capital gains in super if an account has more than $3 million dollars which will not be indexed over time. There is a genuine fear in the community the government may extend this legislation to other kinds of assets outside of super. They also talk about the governments plan to unfreeze deeming rates after the end of the financial year. National Seniors and others are calling on the government to extend freezing deeming rates.

Thank you for joining us live on 2CC, YouTube or your favourite podcast streaming service with ‘The Strategy Stacker – Luke Talks Money’.

Key topics covered include:

  • What is your Total Super Balance?
  • Why does your Total Super Balance matter when it comes to making super contributions?
  • Why might you want to re-set your tax components on superannuation?
  • How much can you put in as a non-concessional (or tax free) contribution?
  • Don’t get Total Super and Transfer Balance Cap mixed up, they are two different things.
  • Why might you want to make a non-concession (or tax free) contribution to your super?
  • What strategies can it help you achieve?
  • Luke shares his top issues to consider before making contributions to your superannuation.
