Dismasted on the Lower Chesapeake Bay/Mobjack Bay/Ware River area.

Welcome to this episode of the Shooting The Breeze Sailing Podcast (STBSP) episdode number 193, where we breakdown the breakdown, and debrief an incident that happened earlier this spring in the lower Chesapeake Bay when a mid 70’s era Allied Princess was dismasted.

I wrangled up a couple of other Sailing Podcasters, our friends Scott Titus of the Splice the Main Brace Podcast, and Chris Smith of the Bonnie Boat Podcast, who were out with the owner of the boat on a find afternoon regatta back in May, when something popped, and next thing you know, the top of the mast was swinging freely from it’s rigging.

We discuss how they got into that situation, some of the safety concerns that come up when you find yourself in a situation such as that, what kind of stress you encounter, and the steps you take to protect your crew and vessel, and how they were able to get the boat docked and taken care of in fairly short order.

We also speak about Scotts involvement in a new Sailing Beyond Cancer chapter located in the Gloucester, Virginia area. Someday we will do an entire episode surrounding that charity and all the good work they do up and down the east coast.
