In today’s episode, we sit down with surfer Cory Spencer, a passionate surfer and co-plaintiff in the Lunada Bay (Palos Verdes) localism lawsuit. Cory shares the intense story of his attempt to surf the legendary Lunada Bay, a break known not only for its powerful waves but also for its notorious localism.

On January 29th, 2016, after years of dreaming about this iconic California spot, Cory and his friend Taloa decided it was time to paddle out and ride the waves at Lunada Bay. However, what was supposed to be an exhilarating day in the water quickly took a turn. From the moment they arrived, they were met with harassment and heckling from the locals, culminating in a dangerous encounter where Cory was run over while surfing.

Cory, who has been surfing since the age of 10, is a strong advocate for proper surf etiquette and respecting the unspoken rules of the lineup. He wasn't looking to cause trouble that day – just to catch a few waves during a solid swell. His experience sheds light on the issue of localism and its impact on surfers trying to enjoy the ocean.

Tune in to hear Cory's firsthand account of this notorious surf break, the legal battle that followed, and his perspective on surf culture and localism. Was Cory simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, or does this story highlight a larger issue in the surfing community? Listen and judge for yourself.
