Ryder Carroll is a digital product designer in New York City who created the Bullet Journal, a global phenomenon that helps users "track the past, organize the present, and plan for the future." Ryder stopped by to discuss the Bullet Journal, how he created it, and how it can improve our lives, as he outlines in his new book called The Bullet Journal Method. The episode begins with Ryder explaining why he created the Bullet Journal (02:26 - 06:16), including the roadblocks he was facing in other productivity systems (06:17 - 09:11) and how the Bullet Journal's flexibility helped him build bulletjournal.com (09:12 - 12:20). Ryder then discusses how he overcame his fears in sharing the Bullet Journal with others (12:21 - 19:26) and some of the most prominent things that he has learned about people's goals and dreams from creating the Bullet Journal (19:27 - 22:26). The discussion then turns to the Bullet Journal itself, including the key features of its analog nature (22:27 - 28:19), the importance of reflection (28:20 - 33:24), and how the Bullet Journal can help you if you are struggling with some goal (like starting a side hustle or business) (33:25 - 41:09). The episode concludes with Ryder explaining the importance of blocking off time for certain tasks (41:10 - 43:45) and one thing that listeners can do today to implement Ryder's insights and advice (43:46 - 45:18).
