Ode to the Day the Starstrider Avoided an Asteroid - A Poem by Saph

Written by Francesca Mylod-Ford

Performed by Rosie Curry

Whilst observing in the mess hall,

Utilising perfect recall,

And preparing for an asteroid collision

I percieve a fight recurring

(Though the engines keep on whirring)

So I plan out all responses with precision.

Quoth the Captain: "It's an issue

For our hull will crunch like tissue

If we try with an uneven distribution."

Quoth the Doctor: "It's appalling

But still better than forestalling

And we cannot find another substitution."

All the Crew is getting nervous,

No one offering their service,

And they are in desperate need of a logician.

Now I know that I am needed

For their intellect's exceeded;

They require my own superior cognition.

Quoth the AI: "I'll assist you,

And I know you won't resist to

My solution to your engine contradiction.

"For your problem's in the wiring

Periodically firing.

If you reset this, you will prove my small prediction."

The Technician did the reset

Which returned it to its preset

And the engines roared again without resistance.

With the asteroid evaded

And congratulations traded

The Crew celebrated the AI's persistance.

Quoth the Crew: "Your cogitation

Rescued us from our damnation

When the hope we had was but a glowing ember.

"Is there a gift that we may give?

For you ensured we all would live."

Quoth the AI: "Only that you would remember."
