Good afternoon, Penn State community. Today is Monday, September 22, 2025, and here are the latest updates from our campus. Currently, it's cloudy with a temperature of 64°F (18°C). Temperatures are expected to rise to a high of 76°F (24°C) by mid-afternoon, with intermittent clouds. There's a chance of thunderstorms this evening, so keep an umbrella handy if you're heading out. Penn State is honoring National Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of events across campuses under the theme "History, Heritage, Hope." These events, running from mid-September through October, celebrate the rich cultural contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. For a full list of events and more information, visit the Penn State News website. The Penn State Board of Trustees recently concluded their September meetings, addressing several key issues: - : The board approved a plan to request $410.5 million from the state legislature for the 2026-27 fiscal year, aiming to keep tuition rates steady for all undergraduates in the 2027-28 academic year. - : An update to the University's five-year capital plan was approved, adding $24.4 million to account for increases in renovation projects and a new project to renovate the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center at University Park. - : The board adjusted President Neeli Bendapudi’s total compensation in recognition of her leadership during challenging times in higher education. For more details on these and other topics discussed, refer to the official Penn State News release. Here are some events happening this week: - : Join the 9th annual Harvest Fest on September 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dr. Keiko Miwa Ross Student Farm. Enjoy free samples of farm-fresh food, crafts, and connect with student farmers. - : Starting September 19, visit the Woskob Family Gallery in downtown State College to experience this multimedia installation by Assistant Professor Woohun Joo, exploring the relationship between visual and auditory perception. For a comprehensive list of events, check out the "Things to Do at Penn State" section on the university's website. Penn State has announced plans to shut down its NPR and PBS-affiliated public broadcasting station, WPSU, by June 2026. This decision follows the Board of Trustees' rejection of a proposal to transfer ownership to WHYY, citing concerns over financial commitments and staff retention. The university is developing a plan to wind down operations over the next year. The 24th Penn State Conference on Academic Advising is scheduled for September 16 and 18, offering both in-person and virtual sessions. Hosted by the Division of Undergraduate Studies, the conference aims to showcase innovative research and practices in academic advising. For more information, visit the conference website. That's all for today's update. Stay informed and engaged, Penn State. We'll be back with more news and events next time.
