For this episode of the Obligatory Movie Game Podcast, Devon and his guests try something new by covering a board game based on a movie, rather than a video game based on a movie. Steven Spielberg’s horror classic Jaws was a smash hit when it came to theatres in 1975, and merchandise with the artwork from Roger Kastel’s famous poster is as ubiquitous now as it was back then. From theme park rides to various video games, there are many ways for fans to insert themselves into the action. The NES game allowed the player to control an armed scuba diver, Jaws Unleashed for Xbox and PS2 let the player control the shark, and Prospero Hall’s board game from 2019 lets the players square off against each other as one person controls the menacing shark, and the remaining one to three players control Hooper, Brody and Quint. Can a board game capture the intensity of Hollywood’s first summer blockbuster? Bart, Alexis and Devon sat down to watch the film and play the board game, and now it’s time to compare them.
