Taking a break and incorporating rest should be part of your business plan. In this snack-sized episode, I’m answering a question submitted by Christi Johnson during the Creative Educator Conference. She asked how I take care of your mental health while running a business—let’s talk about it.

Why Mental Health Should be a Business Priority

Running a personal brand or small team means your presence is vital. If you’re not well, your business feels it. I’ve adopted routines that help me rest deeply—not just shorter work hours, but actual pauses for recovery after major events like the Creative Educators Conference.

How I Carve Out Time for Myself as a Business Owner

Every summer, I reevaluate my workload and set summer hours to make space for family and personal joy. After big projects, I delegate more, push pause on client-facing work, and take time to refuel. These aren’t luxuries—they’re necessities.

The Small Steps That Add Up

I didn’t start with sweeping changes. It began with daily walks. Then came therapy. Over time, I built a wellness-first workflow that’s flexible and sustainable. Prioritizing myself helps me show up more powerfully for my students, clients, and community.

Remember, honoring your well-being isn’t just an act of self-care—it’s an investment in your vision. Every small decision to rest, pause, or say no is a vote for the kind of business and life you’re building. You don’t have to do it all at once. Start small, stay consistent, and trust that prioritizing yourself is the most sustainable strategy there is. You’ve got this—and you’re not alone on the journey.
