4/4 - Dallas and the Apex Predators Jeremy Zakis in New South Wales recounted an unexpected encounter involving his dog, Dallas, and a sparrow hawk. Dallas, accustomed to receiving treats for local birds, was surprised by this "apex predator" not commonly seen in urban backyards. The sparrow hawk was described as a magnificent creature, and Dallas reacted with confusion, watching it for a minute before retreating inside. Other local birds, like magpies and cockatoos, also kept a "wide berth," and Jeremy observed the skies cleared of boisterous birds later. John Batchelor shared a similar experience in New England with a resident red-tailed hawk on his farm, which he called a "king".
