Episode 23: The Future of Dog Rescue Part 1: Regulating Rescue with Richard Holden MP & Jenna Miller
Manage episode 508601276 series 3411739
With an e-petition to regulate rescue centres currently collecting over 100,000 signatures, Hannah Molloy our host, and special guests, The Right Honourable Member for Basildon & Billericay Richard Holden, and grass roots rescue warrior, campaigner and director of Spirit of the Dog Rescue Jenna Miller discuss the pressing need to regulate animal rescues in the UK.
Richard explains;
- How the campaign to regulate rescues and his private members bill was born following a recent tragedy within his own constituency
- The scale of the issue of unregulated rescues and how simple and easy bringing this legislation into effect would be as a cross party win for animal welfare
And Jenna talks us through;
- How large the problem of unregulated rescues really is in the UK
- The impacts it’s having on the dogs, the community and the rescue centres
- How helpful regulation could be to cut out pet peddlers and protect well meaning people from ending up in dangerous hoarding situations with multiple animals
