EU episode – Live from a Treehouse Near Vaals – EP32
Manage episode 508816923 series 3603182
From their IKEA-esque treehouse hideout in Gulpen, Folk Hogan reflect on the whirlwind first leg of their European tour. The band recaps their first four shows: a kickoff night in Zandam filled with new friends and bitterballen, a packed second show at The Skiff in Hilversum complete with gifts and Flügel shots, a lively festival in Tabiste where they sampled fried noodle patties, and a tight, high-energy gig at Uncle Sam’s in Nijverdal that ended with some unexpectedly delicious Dutch Chinese food.
Food and drink become running themes: Casey’s first taste of bitterballen lived up to the hype, the crew got “iced” in the classic Smirnoff Ice Game, and they discovered that Flügel Shots involve tiny bottles, a duck mascot, and drinking without hands.
Coffee culture sparks debate too—Nick powers through the days with cup after cup, while Casey learns the hard way that ordering an “Iced Coffee” in the Netherlands gets you hot coffee topped with ice cream instead. They even share a story about McDonald’s almost helping with an ankle injury but delivering a bag of ice… and a paper bag instead of the ice pack they needed.
The episode captures the humor, chaos, and charm of touring abroad: great crowds, quirky cultural differences, long drives, and a lot of gratitude for warm hospitality. It’s a mix of music, mishaps, and laughter that makes clear this tour is already one for the books.
