Does your child have a flat head, or a flat spot on their head?

It is really common and normal for babies to be born with or to develop a flat spot on their heads. This is called Deformational Plagiocephaly or Positional Plagiocephaly.

The good news is that plagiocephaly generally improves over time and does not affect brain development in the future. Treatment is non-invasive and there are many supports available, including the support and skill of qualified orthotists like Luke Stewart, from Orthokids.

This week on The Expert Guide to Parenthood Podcast we welcome Orthotist Luke Stewart to talk about plagiocephaly - including when to worry, what you can do as parents and where to go for help.

We discuss:

- What plagiocephaly is

- What causes plagiocephaly

- Prevention tips for plagiocephaly

- How plagiocephaly is diagnosed

- The treatment options for plagiocephaly

- If the treatment option hurts

- How long the treatment takes

- If parents need to alter their child’s lifestyle if they have plagiocephaly

- When parents should seek help if they suspect their child may have plagiocephaly
