S1E19: How “South Dakota Caring For Canines” Connects Souls Across the World
Manage episode 521206016 series 3695277
In this heartfelt 90-minute conversation, I sit with Eva, the founder of South Dakota Caring For Canines, whose life is devoted to rescuing & advocating for dogs around the world, from the Midwest to war-torn & conflict regions like Afghanistan, Iraq, & Romania. This episode is rich, inspiring, & absolutely worth the listen.
Eva shares the origin story of her nonprofit, how her mission grew, & why she intentionally operates as a fundraising bridge for shelters who don’t have the resources to obtain or sustain a 501(c)(3) status. We explore how her organization directs help to where it’s needed most, including international shelters featured on her website.
Together, we discuss meaningful ways to support rescue dogs — from Amazon wishlists & donations to buying food for shelters, volunteering locally, adopting responsibly, & committing fully to the dogs we bring into our homes. Eva also opens up about her own five rescue dogs & the lessons they’ve taught her about patience, compassion, & resilience.
She explains essential concepts like the 3-3-3 rule for newly adopted dogs, the value of working with trainers, & the emotional journey of caring for traumatized animals. We also talk about coping with global suffering, staying grounded while making a difference, & how her small business, Y-Knot Creations, helps sustain the nonprofit, including her beautiful handmade nativity wreaths.
This episode touches on:
• the challenges & purpose of 501(c)(3) status
• supporting shelters that lack nonprofit infrastructure
• adopting overseas dogs & what to expect
• the importance of sterilization, education, & kindness
• holiday safety & considerations for pets, including the 4th of July
• Eva’s bake sales & local fundraising events
• tax-deductible donations before year-end
• her message of hope, humility, & gratitude
Eva lives simply so that dogs can live safely, & her devotion is contagious.
Her story invites us to care more, give more, & stretch our hearts wider than we thought possible.
A beautiful, emotional, and inspiring listen.
