Good morning, Emory community. Today is Monday, August 25, 2025, and here are the latest updates from our campus. Today at 10 a.m., we welcome the Class of 2029 with the Emory Gate Crossing and Coke Toast. Faculty, staff, students, and alumni are invited to gather at the Emory Gate to cheer on our newest Eagles as they proceed to the Quad for their first Coke Toast. Let's come together to celebrate this new chapter in their lives. The Weeks of Welcome 2025 are in full swing, offering a variety of events and programs over the first six weeks of the semester. These activities provide opportunities for new and returning students to engage with peers and learn about student organizations. Be sure to check the schedule and participate in the events that interest you. Show your Emory spirit this Friday, August 29, by participating in College Colors Day. Wear your blue and gold, enjoy bookstore discounts, and join in the festivities. Don't miss the chance to cheer for our volleyball and soccer teams as they compete on campus. Emory is embracing innovative approaches that combine technology and liberal arts to address ethical and societal challenges. Our digital humanities initiatives are unearthing stories that matter and creating a deeper understanding of the world we live in. The International Student and Scholar Services recently hosted the second annual Summer Social, providing both incoming and returning students with a fun opportunity to build community. Events like these are essential in fostering a sense of belonging and support among our diverse student body. On August 8, a tragic incident occurred near our campus. A police officer was fatally shot while responding to an active shooter situation near the CDC and Emory University. The shooter was also killed, and no civilians were harmed. Our thoughts are with the officer's family and all those affected by this senseless act of violence. Looking ahead, expect mostly sunny skies throughout the day with temperatures reaching a high of 85°F (29°C) by mid-afternoon. It's a beautiful day to be on campus, so take advantage of the pleasant weather. That's all for today's update. Stay safe, stay engaged, and let's make this semester a memorable one.
