Good morning, Emory community. Today is Monday, September 8, 2025, and here are the latest updates from our campus. Emory University has announced the termination of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and the closure of associated offices. This decision aligns with new federal requirements. In a significant advancement for public health, Emory has introduced a mobile clinic dedicated to prostate cancer screenings. This initiative aims to provide accessible healthcare services to underserved communities. Emory's own Jericho Brown has been honored with the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, often referred to as the "genius grant." This award recognizes his innovative contributions to poetry and includes an $800,000 stipend to support his future endeavors. Emory University plans to redevelop a former auto garage and homeless shelter on Peachtree Street into over 50 competitively priced apartments for healthcare workers at Emory Midtown. This initiative aims to support nurses and technicians who are increasingly priced out of downtown Atlanta, while preserving much of the historic site's architecture. In a move to strengthen international cultural cooperation, Emory's Michael C. Carlos Museum has returned several artifacts to Greece. This action is part of a broader agreement with the Hellenic Republic to enhance educational opportunities and cultural exchange. Emory recently hosted a global university network meeting, showcasing its leadership in artificial intelligence. The event brought together experts from around the world to discuss advancements and collaborative opportunities in AI research and education. A new partnership between Emory's Center for New Medicines and the Winship Cancer Institute aims to expedite the drug discovery pipeline, translating fundamental biological discoveries into next-generation cancer treatments. Emory's Center for Student Wellbeing has launched a new coaching program designed to support students in achieving their personal and academic goals. This initiative is part of the university's ongoing commitment to student flourishing. Emory Libraries, in partnership with Campus Life, have initiated a textbook lending program to alleviate the financial burden of course materials for students. This pilot program aims to enhance academic accessibility and success. The Pathways Center at Emory is expanding its offerings to provide students with more opportunities for career exploration and professional development.
