In this episode, Brett and Laura discuss their relationship with alcohol. Alcohol is a heavy topic for many people. It is very easy to fall into the habit of drinking too much. The challenging part is, that sometimes it’s even hard to tell if you have a problem or not. People believe that just because they don’t get drunk, that means they are having a healthy amount of alcohol and they don’t have a problem. Brett and Laura believed this as well until they realized just how bad just a couple of drinks a day were affecting them.
Brett is passionate about the conversation on alcohol abuse because he used to abuse this substance. Like many, when he was in his early twenties, he had way too much alcohol. He thought he got a handle on this addiction by only having one to two drinks a day. However, he noticed that drinking still affected him. He saw that he would be very quick to get frustrated over small inconveniences.
Laura also explains the heavy effects that alcohol can have on you later in life. Brett and Laura own and operate Platinum Resort and Memory Care Mansion, an Assisted Living home that provides end-of-life care. Laura has seen residents who suffer from memory issues due to excessive drinking. Overall, the two main reasons why Brett and Laura wanted to cut out alcohol are for health and to be better parents.
