General George Henry Thomas, The Rock of Chickamauga, isn't a name you hear as often as Grant or Sherman. But maybe you should. Born in Virginia and raised in the slaveholding South, Thomas made the unthinkable decision to stay loyal to the Union. His family disowned him. His peers turned their backs. But on the battlefield, he delivered victories that shaped the course of the war. This story hits close to home for me. Exactly 100 years before I was born, Thomas was holding Horseshoe Ridge, facing overwhelming odds and refusing to back down. It’s a legacy of quiet strength, of principled resolve, and of a man who didn’t need applause to do what was right. This is the story of the Union’s forgotten giant.
