The Decision: The judge ruled that Google’s $20M annual payments to Apple to secure default placement stifled competition. Google can no longer sign exclusive default search deals. The Data Twist: Google must now open parts of its user data to competitors — a first-of-its-kind mandate that could reshape how companies handle consumer information. Impact on Consumers: New devices won’t automatically come preloaded with Google search. Users will be asked to choose their search engine manually.
