Tony Sewell - Black Success
Manage episode 487777811 series 3670625
Why do a high percentage of African Caribbean people between the ages of 50 and 60 own their home? Why are British Nigerians doing so well academically? What can young black people in the UK learn from the success stories of black people years before?
Tony Sewell has been a teacher and journalist. His charity Generating Genius has helped hundreds of young black people into STEM in business and academia. He was also chair of the UK government's Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities.
His latest book Black Success: The Surprising Truth is part memoir and part argument, looking at the success of black people in the UK. We discuss this in more detail, his views and work in education, the term white privilege and embracing high expectations for black people in the UK.
