Uber and WeRide Launch Driverless Robotaxi Service in Abu Dhabi: A Historic Milestone for Autonomous VehiclesUber and Chinese autonomous vehicle company WeRide have launched a driverless robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi, marking a significant step in autonomous vehicle deployment outside of the US and China. The service, which began commercially a year ago with a safety driver, is now operating without anyone behind the wheel and is open to the public on Yas Island. Passengers can choose the Autonomous option in the Uber app for a fully autonomous ride. Uber has been forming partnerships with various autonomous vehicle technology companies and plans to expand these driverless services to more areas within Abu Dhabis city center and other cities like Dubai.
