Julio Barzola arrived in the United States from Ecuador in 1985 and two years later, he opened his first restaurant in Brooklyn, followed by another in Jackson Heights, Queens. His son Xavier arrived in New York from Ecuador in 1991 and began working in the kitchen soon after.
