Why I No Longer Call Myself a Libertarian | Episode 450

In Episode 450 of the Survival Punk Podcast, I’m laying it out straight: I no longer call myself a libertarian — and here’s why.

This isn’t about giving up on freedom, individual responsibility, or small government. It’s about recognizing that the libertarian movement, and especially the Libertarian Party, has lost the plot — and I’m not interested in being associated with it anymore.

The Party Picked a Leftist — Again

Let’s start with the obvious: Chase Oliver.

The Libertarian Party had a chance to run someone who stood for liberty. Instead, they picked a leftist gun-grabber who wouldn’t be out of place in a Democrat primary. That’s not libertarian — that’s cowardly. It’s performative politics. And it’s killing the credibility of the movement.

I didn’t prep and fight for independence just to cheer for someone who wants to chip away at the Second Amendment with a smile.

The Party Doesn’t Live in the Real World

It’s one thing to dream big. It’s another to ignore reality.

Too much of the movement is caught up in fantasy politics, idealism with no grounding. We’ve got people talking theory while the country’s burning. There’s no urgency. No strategy. No willingness to engage with the actual world we live in.

When you prep, you deal with what’s real. When you live in delusion, you get blindsided.

There Are Too Many Dicks in the Movement

Let’s just say it: the libertarian movement is full of jerks.

It’s supposed to be about open-mindedness and freedom. But it’s become a toxic swamp where people argue over who’s “pure” enough, who’s a statist, who’s a heretic — and they drive off anyone who doesn’t agree 100% with them.

You want new people in the movement? You want to spread the message of liberty? Maybe stop being a jackass to everyone who doesn’t quote Rothbard in casual conversation.

I’ve seen too many good people get pushed out by gatekeepers more interested in online purity tests than actual change.

Final Thought: I Still Believe in Liberty — I Just Don’t Need a Label

I’m not renouncing liberty. I’m doubling down on it.

But I’m done flying a flag that’s being used by clowns, cowards, and keyboard warriors. I care about real-world freedom — not online posturing or parties that nominate people who don’t even believe in the core values.

If that makes me a prepper, a punk, an independent, or just a pissed-off realist — so be it.

Listen to Episode 450 for the full rant. This one’s personal.
