Having identified lonesomeness as his ailment, Peter decides a journey to the "Great World" is the cure, without fully considering potential new dangers. He plans to visit the Old Pasture, a place he's never been but heard much about, believing it to be no more perilous than his current home with Old Man Coyote and the Fox family nearby.
To avoid detection by Old Man Coyote, he decides to embark on his journey at night, without telling anyone, and confidently sets off under the cover of darkness.
