In this episode of Storytelling with Shweta, we hear the story of Sudama, also known as Kuchela. Sudama is not a God or King. He did not fight demons or have an epic love story. He was an ordinary man who was generous of spirit. He was a childhood friend of Lord Krishna and this is the story of them meeting years after life had taken them in different directions.

This family-friendly story is best for all who enjoy stories from the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, Indian mythology and South Asian Folk tales.

Show Notes

Here is an illustration of the story as found in a 17th century Bhagavata Purana manuscript now owned by the Freer Gallery (Smithsonian Museums) .

For another Story from Krishna’s life - here is a retelling of Yashoda’s life after Krishna.
