This week, we bring you a debate every investor has had over the last year: Is Tesla still a buy?

Mike starts off by breaking down the brand’s difficulties in Europe, with sales sliding across markets—particularly in the Nordics, Germany, and France. Some of this can be attributed to Musk’s political antics, but Mike argues that a bigger concern is the automaker’s inability to maintain its moat. Tesla faces more competition in the EV space than ever, especially from cheaper manufacturers in China, and has failed to provide either a more economical model or significant upgrades to existing tech to attract new buyers. There’s also the argument that Musk’s attention is divided between his many companies—not to mention his Twitter usage—which may have caused him to take his eye off the Tesla ball.

However, Emmet takes the counterpoint and explores the importance of Tesla’s speculative tech. The brand has just begun testing its robotaxis in Texas, and if successful, it could become the cheapest autonomous provider, as it isn’t reliant on LiDAR sensors. Additionally, Musk has promised that humanoid Optimus robots will eventually account for 80% of the company’s value—but it remains very unclear when they will come to market. As any long-term Tesla investor knows, Musk has a tendency to overpromise, especially when it comes to timelines.

We leave the question with you: Would you pick up Tesla shares today for the long term?
