We recorded this episode a week before the tragic murder of George Floyd and we think that people need to hear the messages within this episode now more than ever. With the help of Dr. Lakesha Butler (President of the National Pharmaceutical Association) and Dr. Kendra Holmes ( Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Affinia Healthcare) we tackle health disparities and how a lot of those disparities in the African American community came to light because of COVID-19. We also discuss systemic racism and what we, as healthcare professionals and students, can do to address these issues.

This episode is sponsored and with the money we raise from these ads, Bodunrin and I are planning to donate the proceeds to the Chicago Community Bond Fund. They will use these donations to help post bond for those who were arrested during the recent protests/riots that took place in Chicago. If you would like to donate to them, or the Bail Project (which has a more national scope) here are their links:

https://bailproject.org/

During these times, we implore everyone to take a minute and educate themselves on why things are the way are. You need not look far: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc are filled with so many meaningful messages and actionable steps.

Remember, this is not politics, this is not just about the inexcusable death of George Floyd, but a human rights issue that encompasses systemic racism that has been embedded into countless institutions (such as the police).

We stand with the Black Community #BlackLivesMatter #SayTheirNames
