In JJ Green’s short story, “The Collector,” a young woman finds an old picture of Shida Night Market in an antique shop. She bargains patiently with the middle-age owner, and eventually pays for it with one gold earring and 45 thousand yuan.

Too much? Not enough? And what kind of a payment is that?

In this episode of Shida Stories, we encounter Shida in a post-apocalyptic time through JJ Green's sci-fi short story, "The Collector."

Listen to author interviews and scene dramatization from the story. Can you imagine living in Shida in a totalitarian state, ruined environment, and disintegrated community?

Shida Stories (師大的故事) is an ongoing podcast series about the lives, memories, and imaginations of the diverse people who lived, worked, and played in Shida area.

★★Credit and Acknowledgment:
JJ Green’s short story, “The Collector” was published in Taiwan Tales-One Country, Eight Stories: A Multicultural Perspective, a book of collective fiction published by Lone Wolf Press, 2014.

I’d like to thank JJ Green for her interview from 2015, and her kind permission to allow partial audio adaptation of two scenes from “The Collector.”

Also, special thanks go to David Katz, Wang Chien-hwa (王千華), and Sebastian J Katz for their voicework. I also appreciate the audio consultation by Chris Tsai.
