It was a roller coaster of emotions for the Sioux Falls Canaries and their thunderous throng of Birdcage faithful over three nights of league championship baseball in Sioux Falls. The Birds undoubtedly won over Sioux Falls sports fans with three rock 'em, sock 'em games and being so close to their first title in 17 years, they could taste it. Then, the defending champion Kane County Cougars ripped the hearts out of all their chests. Twice, coming from behind 2-0 in the late innings of both Game 4 and winner-take-all Game 5 to celebrate and hoist the Miles Wolff Cup on enemy turf. Besides die-hard fans who had been through a decade of losing until the Canaries became a playoff team again two years ago was manager Mike Meyer — unavailable for comment after Game 5 — and veterans Mike Hart and Jabari Henry, who were both crestfallen yet proud in these postgame interviews with Midwest Sports+ correspondent Zach Borg. The two are contemplating retirement. They're also contemplating coming back and chasing a championship again after the Birds tasted it twice in front of electric Birdcage crowds on Friday and Saturday nights. Who else should manager Mike Meyer make sure comes back to "run it back?" Before those interviews, Happy Hour host and Canaries entertainer and promoter John Gaskins offers his perspective on the legendary three nights and how to process an amazing club turnaround without the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
