The Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority has created a nonprofit arm to spur land development and private investment. About one-third of Hoosier middle schoolers aren’t reading at grade level, prompting the state to launch a pilot program with outside vendors to improve literacy. And a DePauw University study shows the school generated $78 million in economic impact for Putnam County last year.
