Nearly 20 years ago, the Rivers of Steel Explorer was a first-of-its-kind vessel with a hybrid propulsion system powering the boat up and down our three rivers for tours and countless STEM classes alike.

After two decades, Explorer needs a new propulsion system and Rivers of Steel is looking for solutions! In this episode of Tech Vibe Pittsburgh, host Jonathan Kersting from the Pittsburgh Technology Council talks to Explorer Captain Ryan O'Rourke as he explains the vessel's hybrid propulsion system, its history, and the need for a new propulsion system to maintain its operations.

O'Rourke also shares his personal journey with Rivers of Steel and how he became the captain of the Explorer and discusses the impactful work of Rivers of Steel, a significant organization in Pittsburgh that preserves the region's industrial history.
