Welcome to The Wilderness of Creativity Christmas Series with Dr Janet Shipton (paintingwithmrp).

Janet was diagnosed with Younger Onset Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 47. Rather than allowing her diagnosis to define her, she has transformed her journey into a canvas of resilience and artistry. Among her remarkable achievements since this new chapter in her life are a 12-month art road trip, culminating in the publication of her book "A Different Road," funded by Arts Council England in 2022-2023. Janet's creative spirit shines through in her music as well; she co-wrote the song "The Road" with Sheila North and Charlotte Daniels, which not only participated in The World Parkinson’s Song Contest but also won. The song was performed live with the WPC choir in Barcelona in 2023.

Key discussion points:

  • The impact of Parkinson’s on daily life
  • Art as a powerful form of expression and the importance of acceptance, adaptation, and ambition.
  • Exploring theatre and the arts as a vehicle for change and the role of creativity in living life to the full!

Thank you for listening!

Stay wild x
