We follow the response of the Jews—fasting (implying urgent prayer) and Esther’s risky decision to act following Mordecai’s prophetic words that God had brought Esther to the kingdom “for such a time as this.” We develop themes of hatred versus God’s justice, the power of prayer, and our dependence on God if we find ourselves without human support.
