Fossil evidence for evolution. Many rock layers contain fossils of both extinct species and species that exist today. This presents a fascinating opportunity to see if the species alive today have evolved compared to their fossilised ancestors. Research examining this found no change between the species, despite the assumed age of the fossils being millions of years in the past. If evolution occurred and continues to occur, why haven't the species alive today changed dramatically?
