In this talk, given in the course of Franciscan University of Steubenville's 2013 Annual Conference on Christian Philosophy, I set out what could be St. Anselm's response to the guiding question of the conference: "Must Morality be Grounded on God". In typical Anselmian manner, I say, Yes and No, and go on to discuss how Anselm would envision the possibility of a purely secular de-Christianized morality on the basis of his moral theory, and explain reasons why for Anselm any adequate moral theory and practice would preclude such an approach. I focus on God as the ontological ground of value, contributions Christian revelation and reflection make to moral theory, and what ongoing practical engagement with God and the Christian community provides to moral practice.
