The federal government has committed to a target to cut emissions by 62 to 70 per cent by 2035, based on 2005 levels.

Labor says the target is both ambitious and achievable, but there's criticism from the opposition and the cross-bench that the range is either too high or too low.

Today we'll hear from both sides of politics, as well as what the science says, and the response from Australia's neighbours in the region.
