Australia's institutional stock exchange has a new rival.

Chicago-based Cboe has won regulatory approval to begin listing companies for investors on its platform, promising greater innovation and support services.

It comes amid scrutiny of the Australian Securities Exchange, with the corporate regulator launching a landmark inquiry and lawsuit following recurring trade-processing glitches.
