About Liz’s Background and Beliefs:
I was raised in the Church, I’ve been baptized and I believe every single word of scripture is truth. I believe Jesus is our Lord and our Savior, whom God sent down from heaven to free us from our sin and shame and to one day be reunited face to face with Him in Heaven. I believe Jesus is the only way to enter the Kingdom of God. I believe the enemy and the forces of darkness of the spiritual realm are strong in our present day. We know how the war ends and we win, Satan has already been defeated and one day we will be reunited with Our Heavenly Father, however, right now Satan is winning the battle over many of our minds. We may not be exiled or physically enslaved in Egypt but the schemes of the evil one are keeping many of our minds bound and in shackles. I believe if we’ve been baptized and acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior that we have received the power and the authority of the Holy Spirit to defeat the enemy in this battle. I also firmly believe scripture gives us the strategy for how to do this. I believe the role of science should be to study and honor God’s Creation, any science that contradicts the Word of God is counterfeit and should be dismissed as such. That said, I believe in miracles and that God is not confined to the laws of physics. He made all things and some things are meant to be left to the mystery of God. I believe science that glorifies God as our Creator and lines up with scripture can be seen as a gift of instruction and God has called to help teach this instruction.
My scholarly background focused on Biological Sciences and Chemistry. I also have a Masters in Business Administration and have been in the field of research and healthcare since 2007; 13 of those years were spent in the field of Oncology. For the last several years, I have focused strictly on looking at science through a Biblical lens, particularly neuroscience and circadian health. In 2023, after coming across research of brain scans showing what happens in the brain when we practice gratitude, pray, sing worship; I recalled Philippians 4:6-9 and decided to create for myself a format to help rewire my brain each day. Within a few months, I was completely off all medication for my depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD- and for the first time in my entire life I was not depressed or anxious. I decided to start a daily podcast where I walked people through the exact same format each day to help them rewire their brains with Jesus too. I’m a podcast host, Christian speaker, and Rewire Your Brain coach, where I teach the Divine Prescription Method for rewiring your brain with Jesus. I’m a wife to my husband, Walt and mom to our 3 precious kiddos who are 9 & under.
🙌 Extra Science on the Impact of Circadian Misalignment on Rewiring Your Brain
Altered synaptic plasticity: weaken synaptic connections, it increases Beta waves, making you feel stuck in fight or flight and harder to rewire your brain, it dysregulates your neurotransmitters in your brain that your brain needs to rewire and feel happy. It causes neuroinflammation; disruption in clock genes due to circadian misalignment activates immune cells in the brain which cause neuroinflammation and memory loss.
Impact on the prefrontal cortex: The prefrontal cortex, responsible for executive function, decision-making, and emotional control, is particularly vulnerable to circadian disruption. Studies how misalignment can lead to a loss of dendritic length and complexity in prefrontal cortex neurons, which is linked to impaired cognitive flexibility and altered emotionality. This decrease in executive functioning and emotional regulation of this conscious part of our brain leads to an increase in beta waves and the fight or flight feeling.
Dysregulation of neurotransmitters: The clock genes that control circadian rhythms influence the synthesis and release of various neurotransmitters, including dopamine and serotonin. Misalignment can interfere with these neurochemical signals in brain areas associated with mood and reward, potentially contributing to mood disorders.
Neuroinflammation: Disruptions to the circadian clock can lead to chronic activation of immune cells in the brain, such as astrocytes and microglia, causing neuroinflammation. This inflammatory response is thought to be a major contributing factor in neurodegenerative diseases.
Impaired waste clearance: The brain's glymphatic system, which clears waste proteins and toxins like amyloid-β, is most active during sleep. Circadian disruption and associated sleep deprivation can hinder this clearance process, leading to the accumulation of proteins linked to Alzheimer's disease.
