Why are older entrepreneurs four times more likely to start a successful new company than founders in their 20s? How do new businesses with a social purpose consistently outperform venture-backed startups?

Dr. Mary Cronin will discuss her studies of entrepreneurship success and business growth at over 2 million US companies and survey data from entrepreneurs worldwide. The surprising results add up to essential ingredients for startup success in the 21st century.

In this program, you will discover:

  • When it comes to entrepreneurship, age and experience are an advantage
  • Why older founders are so successful in achieving their business goals
  • The personal and financial rewards of revolutionizing retirement through entrepreneurship

About Mary Cronin:

Mary J. Cronin, Ph.D., is a social entrepreneur, a research professor, and a consultant for purpose-focused organizations, especially companies founded by encore entrepreneurs. Working with these older founders inspired Dr. Cronin's latest book, Starting Up Smarter: Why Founders Over 50 Build Better Companies. Contrary to the widespread perception that entrepreneurship is dominated by the young, her research shows that older adults are the fastest-growing category of business founders. What's more, older entrepreneurs are far more likely to create profitable, socially valuable companies.

Dr. Cronin teaches Entrepreneurship at Boston College and coordinates an Entrepreneurship program designed for nontraditional students. She is the Founder and President of 4Q Catalyst, which provides consulting and advisory services to help entrepreneurs of all ages make a positive impact on the world. Her earlier books include Managing for Social Impact: Innovations in Responsible Enterprise with Tiziana Dearing; Smart Products, Smarter Services; and the international bestsellers Doing Business on the Internet and The Internet Strategy Handbook.
