Kelly Hale, occupational therapist and movement specialist, reveals how nervous system regulation is the missing piece in gut healing. She shares her journey from traditional OT to developing a brain-body-biome approach that helps clients release emotions stored in organs and tissues.
• Chronic stress keeps the body in fight-flight-freeze, making proper digestion physiologically impossible
• Developmental movements we experience as babies lay the foundation for nervous system regulation throughout life
• Specific organs hold particular emotions – liver stores anger, ileocecal valve holds complaints, cardiac sphincter harbors worry
• Traditional talk therapy works well for some, but somatic approaches provide another entry point for releasing stored trauma
• Simple movement patterns can help regulate the nervous system without complex equipment or extensive training
• Our bodies whisper before they scream with pain – learning to listen to subtle cues prevents bigger issues
• Cross-body movements are particularly effective for bringing the nervous system back to regulation
• The sensory experience of food and environment plays a crucial role in nervous system health
