Addiction is defined as the interplay and continuance of activity in spite of suffering the damaging consequences. This literally means losing your job, your marriage, your children, your friends even your life is not enough to stop the continuation of addictive behavior. Death is the only function that ends the addictive mindset. Recovery from addiction begins with a decision to live and not die. The premonition to live is the precursor to recovery. It is only through a moment of sanity that we make a conscious decision that life is worth living. It is our compilation to live and not die that makes the road to recovery possible. With this decision, we then must develop a belief in a power greater than ourselves that can and will save us from us. This belief is coupled with hope. A hope that recovery is possible. An understanding that although the disease of addiction has no cure, treatment is possible and a functional, compelling, promising life is achievable. Learning what to and what not to do to sustain recovery is a product of a process. A process of daily treatment. A process where one is consumed with making the next right decision. Listen as Trent tackles living a life where acceptance of the consequences is not enough to stop the disease of addiction.
