Poynter’s new traveling exhibit “Moments of Truth: An Exploration of Journalism’s Past, Present, and Future.” This traveling pop-up exhibit on display at the Museum of History traces the evolution of storytelling and journalism while highlighting its vital role in defending democracy. Sean Marcus joined Rui in the studio to talk about the exhibit.
**Opened on May 29, 1975, Modern Media Institute was a small journalism school that was dreamed up by St. Petersburg Times owner and chairman Nelson Poynter. Years later, MMI transformed into the Poynter Institute. Celebrating their 50th year, the Poynter Institute is a global nonprofit that strengthens democracy by improving the relevance, ethical practice and value of journalism. Through teaching, publishing, convening, fact-checking and media literacy, Poynter creates a crossroads where communities come together to use journalism to confront society’s complex problems.
** The exhibit is part of Poynter's 50th Anniversary. Poynter will ‘take over’ a city in collaboration with local organizations through a pop-up exhibit and live programs to help residents navigate the search for truth in the context of changing times and technologies.
Moments of Truth: An Exploration of Journalism's Past, Present and Future Exploring the Past The exhibit is a panel pop-up timeline The modular, pop-up exhibit will feature a timeline informing viewers of key moments in the history of news media, from the origins of American journalism to a glimpse at where technology might take us in the near future. It's to help the public better understand what journalism is and how it helps in the search for truth and dispelling misinformation? It looks at how we consume news has evolved over the course of American history. Reporting, journalism, and the press have also transformed over time, responding to major events and adapting to emerging technologies. QR codes on each panel that take viewers to multimedia content and activities that use tested techniques for increasing media literacy skills.
